Your safety in the Philippines
Traveling is safer!
With the crackdown on drugs the number of petty crime and hold up events have massively diminished.
No just normal driving!
The recent drug crackdown has results!
Shabu, a slang term for the drug methamphetamine used in Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines,
Malaysia and Indonesia. Ya ba, also called shabú (Philippines), pills with a mixture
of methamphetamine and caffeine prevalent throughout Asia.
Before P (Shabu) or Crystal meth was almost sold openly like fish. Town dwellers say streets were noisy till
the late hours as dealers on no muffler motorbikes advertised and sold to the mostly innocent.
The government launched a campaign to crackdown on drugs in which over 6,000 people were killed. However human rights defenders and journalists were also targeted and killed by unidentified gunmen and armed militia. The use of unnecessary and excessive force by police continued. In a landmark ruling the courts convicted a police officer for torture for the first time under the 2009 Anti-Torture Act.
So it is much safer here.
From Al Jazeera’s: The Shackles of Shabu Crystal Meth in the Philippines: Shabu
“One of the fastest growing drug problems in the world is with ‘ice’ or crystal meth.
It is known as shabu in the Philippines where official estimates suggest that about seven million people —
almost 10 per cent of the population—use the drug.”
But The People's Republic of China executes the highest number of people annually.
It is mostly enforced for murder and drug trafficking, and executions are carried out by lethal injection or shooting. The People's Republic of China executes the highest number of people annually, though other countries (such as Iran) have higher per capita execution rates.
China is believed to have executed more people than the rest of the world combined in 2016, as the number of death penalties across the globe fell by 37 percent overall.
The number of executions globally fell by 37 per cent in 2016
The fall was driven largely by fewer executions in Iran and Pakistan
China is the world's largest executioner while the USA fell from the top five
An Amnesty International report found there were 1,032 state-sponsored executions worldwide in 2016 — 602 fewer than in 2015.
However Amnesty's annual tally excludes China, where the true number of people sentenced to death is a state secret but is thought to be "in the thousands".
Human rights group Dui Hua estimates China conducted about 2,000 executions last year, down from 6,500 a decade ago.
China has faced longstanding pressure from the international community to curb its use of the death penalty, which reached a frenzy in 1983 with 24,000 executions.

Location Location Location!
Avoid pirated areas (some sea areas south), generally out of the south (Mindanao) but some areas of Mindanao are for the careful probably safe like Surigao, but they are still wild! What Westerners consider normal ain’t available.
The justice system here has its moments, so don’t count on it. Justice delayed is justice denied. The violent and persistent drug crackdown is an effective choice, but there are always rotten apples.
Avoid some areas at night time and don't carry around a lot of cash.
Compared to many parts of Asia, the Philippines has a huge advantage, many people speak English and many laws are written in English.
Like most of Asia basic safety matters may be ignored. If in any public building fire exits may be blocked, inflammable materials are used randomly and multistory hotels may not have fire rated doors.
Even when the local Fire Safety Officer had these locked and blocked fire exits brought to their attention ....
In Asia ! everywhere be more aware that you need to check on your own personal safety, experienced Western travellers take more sensible road-worthy choices!
Transport is different most times without seat belts. Sitting in the middle of a bus over the rear axle is much safer than being crammed into an overloaded mini-van!
Boat trips also are of varying safety too. Many locals cannot swim and they will panic. Even on large "Certified" ships the engineering is wildly unsafe, I've seen it myself many times.

Holidaymakers like to spend their time away from work free from worldly cares. The Philippines has long trailed Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore in terms of tourist arrivals, despite a splendid endowment of natural wonders and the highest level of English fluency in East Asia. Now, it's fighting outright relegation, with former fringe destinations such as Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos threatening to overtake. Is tourism a casualty of its President’s brutal war on drugs?
Smart travellers avoid Manilla for Cebu is the International Destination
Manilla’s congested international airport once was dubbed the world’s worst airport in surveys by travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports. Improvements have allowed it to escape that listing since 2015, but it remains overly congested. If you arrive in over-populated Manilla avoid the chaos and get the one hour connecting flight to easy-going Cebu.
